Do you remember your last move? I do, and it was painful. Now I am in the middle of moving once again. This time, we are just moving down the street, so it is going to be easier than ever before and probably, ever again. Does that mean it's easy? Of course not. It's moving. If you think you don't have much stuff, then moving will remind you just how much stuff that you have. If you know you have a lot of stuff (like I do), then moving is a stress that you don't want to endure.
Why are we moving? Well, it's a better place in a better location. It's on the corner. We can see the castle. It has automatic rolladen (electric shutters). It has two huge closets. It has a balcony (although it is a small balcony) and a big bathtub! One other deciding factor was our current upstairs neighbors. They are elephants that rearrange their furniture constantly. It often sounds like someone is bouncing a ball, rolling a bowling ball and doing the Riverdance in the apartment and up and down the stairs. The only good thing was we didn't feel guilty when we had loud parties. We are hoping that we won't hear our new neighbors, at least when we're in our new apartment.
I'll post some pics of our new place once we take some.
Flickr just upgraded their "Pro" service to let you include videos!!! I have been thinking about upgrading my Flickr account to Pro (~$25 a year), but the deciding factor was that they wouldn't let you upload videos. I think most of my videos are less than 30 seconds, and their limit is 90 seconds! There is no limit on the NUMBER of videos, so there ya go! Totally worth it. Plus, I can finally put all my pics online, my family and friends can have TOTAL access to all of it, and it's linked to VOX. I'm a fan.
The picture to the side was when Steph (the girl on the right)'s mom was in town visiting and we were in a local old (probably older than the U.S.) Heidelberg bar (Zum Zeppl, mabye?) and we got a picture with the piano man. The rest of the pictures from that night are here, so click and see more pictures of Das Boot (not a direct translation). There are pictures of us sharing a drink, literally, even though Steph's mom only pretended to partake.
I like the picture of Bill with the beer--it looks like he's posing with his closest friend...or with a prospective girlfriend.
I like this picture, too, because you can see Steph's teeth. I'm not sure if she was smiling or if she always drinks like this, but I'm pretty sure she wasn't laughing. I'm not making fun of her, it's just a funny picture.
I first blogged this from my new phone, the Nokia N95 8Gb, which I still love! I'm just editing the post to add some text, as you can see. We had a very nice Christmas, with some friends of ours coming over and doing a big Christmas dinner and then a "white elephant" type gift exchange where we drew numbers and the higher number could pick one of the gifts that had already been opened, which was a success. Then we moved to another friends and ate dessert and played some games. It was quite fun!
New Year's, we went first to a champagne party which was very posh. We tried champagne from several different countries and contributed a bottle of bubbly from Russia. Well, obviously, the only real champagne was from France, because it comes from the Champagne region of France, but what else ya gonna call it?
Then we moved to another friend's party, which they were just moving to yet another friend's place, where we would watch the fireworks from. They had a balcony from which I shot the above video. Nice, huh?
After the fireworks, the couple who's place it was announced that they had "Rock Band" for the Xbox 360...I think. I believe they had both an Xbox 360 and a PS3, and I'm not sure to which the wires went. Anyway, it was awesome and we played much longer than they probably would have liked us to, but we were having a legendary night. We finally packed it in around 4.
I read a very interesting article in the New York Times about sleep and lack of it. I recommend reading it. People who get enough sleep live longer than people who don't. I've been interested in sleep for a long time. What does that have to do with the picture above? Absolutely nothing! I just got this picture and some others not too long ago, so since I didn't have 'sleep' picture to put with this post, I thought I'd put this up there. It was taken on the Heidelberg castle grounds.
This was a picture that was taken at John's wedding that took place on August 31st, 2007. From left to right, there's Mark, Me, Paudie, Thomas, John, Alex, and Mr. Gentle (a.k.a. J.R.). Don't ask me what we're all thinking about or what we're looking at. I think what I was thinking at that exact moment was either, "How can I manage to look cool in this photo," or, "If Mark moves quickly, will I lose my balance and fall?" I just got the picture yesterday from the bride, Gillian, via email, hence the delay in posting. By the way, best wishes to John & Gillian for a happy and long marriage!
Today was a beautiful day in Heidelberg, Germany! Well, for this time of the year, anyway. People were playing soccer and frisbee and sitting on the Neckar and just relaxing outside. That's amazing for March. So I went walking along the Neckar, also, and took a couple of video with my phone. They aren't great, but you can see the green. Enjoy.
